We are getting closer to defining the process of getting a flat stomach, but there are some things that you need to understand first. So let’s talk about the many flat stomach myths and misconceptions that exist out there. Everyone it seems has an old family tradition or story that has been handed down through the generations, but how much of it is based on fact? The same goes for weight loss myths. Everyone ‘knows’ them, but so many of them are not true or helpful at all. No doubt, you have most likely heard many of these, perhaps you even hold some of them as fact. But this page is all about debunking these myths and setting you on the right path to success.

Here is another thing to remember, if it sounds too good, it probably is. You always hear of miracle results and amazing diet or exercise regiments that can give you dramatic results with very little effort. It all sounds good, which is why they pitch it that way, but it is more than likely just a marketing pitch so that they can stand out from the crowd.

Separate fact from fiction

You need to be able to separate fact from fiction so that you won’t waste your time doing things that aren’t helpful. It is sometimes difficult to know what is truth when so many people have their own ‘truths’ that they aspouse to others. But so much of it is just old tradition and wives tales that get passed down through word of mouth without any actual basis in truth. So you need to know what to avoid, and what is just a waste of your time and effort.

I’m Just Big Boned
This is a common myths that everyone has heard. There is no evidence to back up this myth. Many people use this as a crutch to explain why they are overweight and why they shouldn’t try to remedy the problem. But bone size or structure doesn’t effect the layer of extra fat that is hanging off of your body.

Starving Is Effective
Some people will try to starve themselves in an attempt to lose weight quickly. This is a dangerous practice because it can lead to detrimental health problems. But not only that, it also doesn’t work. When your body is cut off from calories and food, then it will start to go into a conservation mode where your metabolism slows and you burn much less energy because your body is trying to protect you. It actually is a better practice to eat smaller meals more often because this will keep your metabolism at a consistently high rate.

Being Really Hungry Is A Good Sign
This ties in with the starvation myth. Being really hungry will not help you lose weight quicker. Your body will go into conservation mode and start saving energy when it should be burning it. You should eat a small snack when you are hungry to maintain your metabolic rate.

As Long As You Eat Healthy, You Can Eat As Much As You Want
This isn’t not an accurate statement. While certain foods are considered nutritious, they still carry a calorie count. And you get into trouble with taking in more calories than you are burning. This causes excess fat to be stored. A calorie is a calorie. Even if something is healthy, the calories still add up.

You need to stay away from these common misconceptions. You may think that you have an insiders secret or a shortcut about how to lose weight or exercise better, but it is more likely that it is just a distraction that will waste your time, and in the end maybe even discourage you from succeeding. By avoiding these myths you will be able to take the right steps that will ensure success and give you the motivation to continue until you finally achieve your goal.

As humans, we are always trying to take the easiest way out. But just know that the path of least resistance is usually not the best course of action. But we all take as many shortcuts as we can. While this can save us time and money, it is not a good habit to get into when it comes to weight loss. The reality of it is, is that you will most likely spend more time and effort trying to cut corners, than if you would just do the complete process as a whole.

We live in a ‘now‘ society. We have things like instant coffee, automatic car washes, grab and go breakfasts, etc. So everyone wants an immediate solution to their problems. And it is no different with losing weight! This is why people so quickly turn to things like stomach stapling surgery or liposuction to solve their weight issues. In reality, your body has a natural system in place for you to lose weight. It just requires that you actually go through the process. Many people don’t want to accept that fact, but you are not one of them!

Fast weight loss methods to avoid

People can get so caught up in trying to get a flat stomach fast that they may take risky and dangerous steps to achieve their desired results. These risky methods include crash diets, weight loss pills, liposuction, anorexia, starvation, and so on. These methods are extreme and are never called for. If you find yourself thinking that ‘they are harsh, but at least they get the job done’, then think again. Yes, they may get your body weight down, but it will be in an unhealthy manner. The results of these include malnutrition and other adverse health effects. They will give you a sickly appearance, not one of being healthy and slim. Losing weight is one thing, but losing weight in the wrong way can be far worse than just keeping the extra weight. If you lose weight too quickly then you are not just losing the bad fat, you are losing important nutrients that your body needs to function properly. So it is dangerous and not worth the risk to your body.

How fast to a flat stomach?

Getting a flat stomach is not an overnight process. It would be great if it were! Then you could eat and do whatever you like because all you would need is just one night to get back to a firm, tight stomach! But this is the real world that we are living in. You won’t be able to get a flat stomach in a night, a week, or maybe even a month depending on where you are starting from. That is because it will take time to reverse the effects of your previous lifestyle that gave you the overweight stomach in the first place. So how long will it take? There is not a direct answer to that. Basically because people have too many unique circumstances, but you can start making progress now. Regardless of how long it takes, it all starts with the first step.

Some ways are faster than others

That being said, there are ways that are faster than others, that only makes sense though. There are methods that may work, but they do not necessarily encompass all of the techniques and approaches that you need to take, they may only contain a couple of them. And without all of the forces working together for your benefit, it will not work as quickly.

So what ways are faster? Well, I’ll list a few here. First off, we all known that over eating is a huge factor in excess stomach fat. So logically you would want to dramatically cut your intake until it all balances out, right? Well, the answer is really no. It’s only natural to come to that conclusion, but by dramatically cutting your food and energy intake, your body will trigger a kind of ‘hibernation’ mode where it will protect you from starvation. It’s far more helpful to slowly decrease the level of food that you eat overtime, so as to not shock your body to over compensate for the loss and go into a protection mode where it starts to conserve that try to maintain your current body fat level. We’ll get more in-depth with this technique, and many more, as we continue with this series of posts. But there are some other topics that you have to understand first.

Also keep in mind that one of the big ways to speed up the process is to not waste your time doing useless and counter productive things. This is why it is so important that you go into the process of getting a flat stomach with a full understanding of what you should and should NOT be doing. Focusing on the right steps will keep you busy enough, there is no point to doing things that will at best not help you, and at worst, even hurt your cause.

Final thoughts

So remember that a quick solution is ideal, but it isn’t everything. What is important, is that you have an effective process that will get you to your goals. Don’t take dangerous or risky steps to get a flat stomach fast. Your body has a natural process in place that will help you to lose weight and tighten your stomach. So take advantage of it and learn as much as you can about the entire process, and remember to keep moving forward.

This is a large undertaking on my part. In the next series of posts, I plan on giving you a complete run down on how to get a flat stomach! Information is usually scattered all over the place and you never seem to get a fully compiled source of information, but that is what this site is dedicated to. There are of course greater detail that I could go into, but these next posts will cover a large part of the entire process. If you follow what I spell out in the coming days, you WILL lose weight and be well on your way to a get flat stomach.

Why you want a flat stomach

Are you noticing that your stomach is starting to get a little flabby? Or perhaps it’s been that way for some time and you have wanted to get a handle on it, but are just now getting around to taking action? At one point in our lives, most of us will have to deal with extra weight gain and stomach fat. For most of us it is just a result of stressful lifestyles, our busy lives, our bad habits, or even just getting older. It may not be your fault, or then again, it may be entirely your fault. But regardless of how you got to this point, you are seeking help in doing something about it, and that is commendable.

Extra fat around your stomach is most often a sign that your body is not burning calories at the same rate that it is taking them in. So the prescription for that is to simply eat less. Ok, ok, I know that is never simple, but that’s the theory anyway. But there is more to it than that. You don’t have to get out a calculator and just count up calories to lose weight, but you do need to make some lifestyle changes. Let’s face it, your current lifestyle is what has gotten you into this predicament in the first place, so logically speaking, how do you expect to change anything if you don’t change anything?

Steps to get a flat stomach

So let’s get to it. Below you will find a sequential series of posts that will go in-depth to each and every step in the process of getting a flat stomach. Some posts will cover information that you will need in order to understand what is required of you, others will warn you of the things that you need to stay away from. But each has important information about the complete flat stomach process. This isn’t something that will just happen, you need to be committed and take the right steps to get it done. So I would recommend reading each post through, maybe even more than once, to get a full understanding so that you won’t be wasting your time or even being counter-productive when you try to complete your mission.

Can you Get a Flat Stomach Fast?
Weight Loss Myths
Exercise Myths
Causes of Stomach Fat
Does Exercising Help?
Cardio Exercises
Flat Stomach Exercises
Fat Burning Foods
Foods to Avoid
Bad Habits to Break
Healthy Eating Habits

Don’t be intimidated

As you will read on the pages above, this won’t be an easy process, but it also won’t be impossible or burdensome if you follow the advice above. What it may be however, is intimidating. It will seem like you won’t be able to do it, or that it is asking too much. You may wish and hope for an overnight and simple solution, but that isn’t realistic. The process is what it is, there aren’t any huge secrets or shortcuts, but what there is, is factual information and tips that will work if you do them.

Endure to the end

So the first thing you will need to do is to commit to the entire process. It will do little good to just start it for a couple of days, or even for a week. You will need to truly and absolutely make up your mind that this is something that you want to do. Just keep your mind focused on the goal and how much better you will look and feel when, not if, you achieve your goal and your desired results.

Final thoughts

Half of the battle is just getting started. The other half is finishing, but you have to put one foot in front of the other, so that means starting at the beginning. So look through the pages about and take the time to learn. You probably don’t know everything about how to get a flat stomach, I mean, why would you read to the bottom of this page if you already know it all? So you have to go into this with the understanding that you don’t know everything, but that is ok. What is on these pages is easy to understand information that will give you the steps and tools that you need to finally get a flat stomach. So what are you waiting for? It’s time to take the first step…

The lower ab region starts beneath the navel, everything above is thought of as the upper ab region. Your lower stomach is a difficult place to get flat because there is more fat around this area than any other part of your stomach. You cannot use stomach exercise alone to flatten your lower stomach, you need the lose the excess fat or all of the exercise in the world won’t make it look that much better.

For most people, you want your lower stomach to not stick out beyond the rest of your stomach. That is the natural shape if you have extra fat and sagging skin. You instead want your lower abs to be flat and blend into the rest of your body. This is why you have to lose the fat first! Think about it, it isn’t that you want your lower stomach overly muscular, but you don’t want it to protrude out and look bad. So remember that fat starts to accumulate around your lower stomach first, but it will spread to the rest of your stomach given time and assuming that you don’t change anything with your lifestyle. So you need to start taking the steps to stop the fat accumulation, and start taking the steps to lose stomach fat.

One of the best ways to tone your stomach is to do exercises that involve your legs. Many people don’t put the two together, but your leg movements are directly connected with your stomach muscles, especially for your lower stomach. Here is a simple exercise that can maximize your effort for stomach toning.

‘Leg Lifts’ Exercise Steps:

Lie flat on the floor with your legs stretched out.

Place your hands and arms at your sides, you will not use them.

Tilt your head off the ground slightly then lift your legs together off the ground until they reach a 90 degree angle.

Then slowly lower them back down. Repeat process.

This exercise can really be effective if done right. It uses your legs to contract your abdominal muscles for stomach toning. This is a relatively simple exercise that only requires floor space. So take advantage of its ability to give you good results with minimal effort.

This is another simple exercise that you can do. We all know the advantages of the basic ’stomach crunch’. It is probably the most common and thought of stomach exercise. It is so because it can deliver consistent and prominent results. But it is generally a more difficult exercise to do that requires a lot of effort for it to pay off. So here is a twist on the stomach crunch, it is called the ‘reverse crunch’.

Lie on the floor, with your head just off the ground

Let your legs lay out straight, off the ground

Bend your legs back with your knees moving towards your head

Return to starting position, rinse, wash, repeat

This version of the crunch is done so that instead of moving your upper body toward your legs, you move your legs towards your head and upper body. This probably isn’t as effective in the long run as the original stomach crunch, but it is certainly easier. It is a solid simple exercise that delivers quality results

You lead a busy life and you can’t always seem to find time in your weekly schedule to commit to a regular exercise routine. And let’s admit it, it is a tough think to do. You most likely run around through all day and you may not have the time or may not be in a location that will allow you to exercise properly.

But you need to make the time to get this done. And most likely, you have the time, you just may not recognize it or haven’t slightly shifted other things around to make this happen.

Motivation is a huge factor in getting around to do something. It’s easy to say you want to do something, but we both know that won’t make it happen. You need to actually take the steps to accomplish it. And often times, getting started is the hardest part. You need to remember why you want to do this! this is about getting healthier, looking better, improving yourself! If you keep this in mind and constantly remind yourself why you are doing this, that will make the process that much easier AND more successful.

Ok, so when can you find the time to exercise regularly? Well, for these simple exercises, it isn’t a bad idea to do them 5 days a week with a rest day after every 2 days of exercising. So that would be two days of exercise followed by a day off. Now, when should you do them during the day? Well, this is something that will vary for each and everyone of us. Some people like to start the day off with a brisk exercise regiment, while others prefer to finish the day off with a refreshing exercise routine. It’s really up to you, perhaps you can even find time throughout the day to get these done.

It isn’t important WHEN you do them throughout the day, it is important that it just gets done. Remember, this is about improving yourself and attain the goals that you have set. These simple exercises we’ve been talking about can be a good start at accomplshing them, but the resposibility is on you to commit to doing them.

Here is the third in my series of simple exercises. Remember, these exercises are meant to be relatively easy so that they can be done by anyone with limited effort and time, but to still give effective results.

‘Hands VIA Knees’ Steps:

Lie flat on your back with your knees bent and the soles of your feet flat on the floor. Have your arms stretched out in between your legs.

Lift your upper body off the ground, with your head towards your knees, like you would with a sit-up. Keep your legs and arms from moving.

Return to starting position. Do 15-20 reps, or until tired.

Do the lifting off the ground with your ab muscles. This will take some concentration as you will want to use your arms or back to do the lifting.

Here is another simple exercise to add to your list. This will require a little bit of space to do it right, so you won’t be able to fit it into just any part of your day, but nonetheless, it is a useful exercise to do.

Hip Roll Steps:

Lie flat on your back with your knees bent and the soles of your feet flat on the floor. Also have your arms flat on the floor at your sides.

Without moving your upper body, roll your knees to the left until they touch the ground. Hold for 2 seconds.

Return to starting position and do the same movement to your right this time. Alternate sides as you go.

Do about 10-15 reps for each side.

This may take some prior stretching to be able to get your knees bent to the ground sideways, but if you aren’t that flexible, just get them over as far you can.

Here is an exercise that requires very little time and can be done almost anywhere. It is something that should be easy to fit in your schedule, while at work, or even driving in the car.

Exercise Steps:

Stand Up Straight.

Lightly tighten you stomach muscles.

Hold for a second while tightened.

Take slow, deep breaths, in and then slowly out, all the while holding your stomach muscles tight. Keep taking breaths until you get tired.

This is a simple exercise that can be done nearly anywhere. If you are really stretched for time, you could do the same exercise sitting down, even at a desk. Just sit up straight and stretch your upper body up as musc as possible so that your ab muscles are scrunched together.
